Stoptober, the 28-day stop smoking challenge is here again and is also here in Wales this year, backed by a whole host of celebrities, sports personalities and big-name organisations who will be providing encouragement to quitters across the country.
Stoptober provides a wide range of support, guidance and encouragement for smokers wishing to attempt to go smoke-free for 28 days and is a positive and supportive campaign to help people achieve their stop smoking goal. STOPTOBER is a campaign calling for the public to begin thinking about making a stop smoking attempt and preparing themselves for the start of the second phase, the 28-day challenge, starts today 1st October.
We are encouraging smokers wishing to become smoke-free to sign up to take part at www.smokefree.nhs.uk/stoptober where they will be provided with a detailed 28-day step-by-step programme to support them in their smoke-free attempt (or search for Stoptober online).
You will also be able access a helpful Stoptober app for I phones or Android so you can also request text and e mail support, which makes it easier for some people to access. You can also get support on Twitter!
If you smoke 20 cigarettes a day, you could save over £200 by joining #Stoptober. What would you do with an extra £200?
#Stoptober starts today October the 1st ! Join in for loads of free support!
Some key points in the stop smoking timeline;
After two days your body is nicotine-free and your sense of taste and smell improve
After two to 12 weeks, your circulation improves.
After one year your heart attack risk is half that of a smoker
After 10 years your lung cancer risk is half that of a smoker
Smokers are five times more likely to stay smokefree if they successfully make it through the first four weeks.
