FAN News

Pat Chown Award of £1000 Presented to FAN Group Today at the Buzz By John Chown

The Fan group has been a chosen charity to receive that award. The  YMCA mental health project was a winner to receive the award and they have nominated the FAN charity, with whom they work with at their Design for Life Project.  The winner of the Pat Chown award passes on the ‘blessing’ of a financial prize to a charity of their choice – they chose Fan!

Fan

Fourteen years ago, Community Housing Cymru set up an Award scheme to recognise housing innovation in memory of a special person – Pat Chown. Pat gave a big part of her life to helping others and spent much of her working life in helping to meet people’s housing needs in Wales.

As a way of remembering Pat, her contribution to housing and her constant search for better ways of doing things, Community Housing Cymru invited entries for the Capturing Creativity Award.

The Award’s aim is to recognise innovation and creativity:

  • New ways of responding to day-to-day issues or dealing with common problems.
  • More effective or easier ways of tackling long-standing issues.
  • Creative ways of responding to the housing and related needs of the communities with which housing associations work.

Fan brings people together from around the corner and around the world in weekly, friendly conversation groups and is very grateful for the support in Butetown and Grangetown from BRG Communities First.
