Lion – WOW women only film screening

This is a true story of Saroo, a young child that gets separated from his family whilst boarding a train that transports him across India, thousands of miles away from home and family.

Saroo must learn to survive alone in Kolkata, before ultimately being adopted by an Australian couple. Twenty-five years later, armed with only a handful of memories, his unwavering determination, and a revolutionary technology known as Google Earth, he sets out to find his lost family and finally return to his first home.

Time Magazine reviewed it as ‘A deeply empathetic performance from Dev Patel and an unflinching view of child poverty on the streets of Calcutta provide a winning edge to Lion’.

A definite must see!

WOW Women’s Film Club: Timbuktu

You are warmly invited to WOW Film Club’s October women-only screening of…

Wednesday 19th October, 10am

Not far from the ancient city of Timbuktu in Mali, a proud cattle herder – Kidane – lives peacefully in the dunes with his wife and daughter. In the nearby town, Islamic fundamentalists have taken over, and the restrictions imposed by the militants is drastically changing life for the local towns people, who are powerless in the face of the regime of terror imposed on daily existence. Music, laughter, cigarettes – even football – have been banned. Women have become shadows, but some resist with dignity. TIMBUKTU is a moving, haunting and beautifully shot film. It shows us the humanity of even the so called ‘jihadists’. It shows us a desert way of life that is compelling in its simplicity, but that is increasingly difficult to sustain.

We’d love you to join us for this incredibly inspiring film, and a chance to socialise with other Film Club women!

Tickets £3.50/£5.50
