Is splott a nice place to live?
It’s not as bad as its reputation, it’s a working class housing area, there’s a few nice parks, well served with shops, pharmacies etc. The people are mostly friendly, there are some chavvy types loitering around but apart from that it’s a fine place to live.
Is Splott in Cardiff rough?
Splott is OK, it’s a little rough round the edges. The streets either side of Splott Road are OK (Ordell Street down to Florence Street and in between Moorland Road and Railway Street) although I’d avoid Moorland Road, it’s a busy main road and it can be a nightmare with traffic.

Adamsdown isn’t that bad at all; I lived there for a couple of years and was fine. It’s like any area really – don’t take stupid risks and you’ll be ok. I lived in adamsdown for about a year straight out of uni. The local people are very chavvy and not at all friendly to outsiders.

Brick by brick – building Splott Most houses in Splott were built between 1875 and 1914, with the majority built to house the workers of the steelworks. Splott Road, Portmanmoor Road and Moorland Road were the main early streets to be built. Alongside this, two parks were built on land donated by Lord Tredegar.
When was tremorfa built?
As iron ore was increasingly imported from abroad at this time, production costs rose considerably and the need for more modern methods of steel production were required. Lord Bute donated land in Tremorfa (near to his ports in the docks) and on this, the East Moors Steelworks was built, and opened on 4 February 1891.
